COUNSELLING FOR SIGHT LOSS COURSE: Belfast: 30 & 31st January, 2019
RNIB in partnership with Vision UK are offering a 2-day course in “Counselling for Sight Loss” in Belfast on Thursday 30th and Friday 31st January, 2020.
This course is designed to help you better understand how to support clients who have sight loss. It is a two – day course, which requires attendance on both days.
Day One gives an overview of different eye conditions and explains how these conditions impact on communication. It also examines the practicalities of setting up an accessible counselling space for someone with sight loss.
Day Two looks at ways of working therapeutically with commonly identified issues for blind and partially sighted people.
At the end of the course you will be asked to submit a reflective piece demonstrating your learning and outlining your future steps to support clients with sight loss. Successful completion of this, leads towards a Counselling for Sight Loss Accreditation qualification, which is endorsed by Vision UK and RNIB. The aim of the accreditation qualification is to increase capacity of research informed counsellors who are specifically trained to work with clients with sight loss in Ireland. A certificate of attendance is provided and this can be used to support CPD logs for your own professional development.
We are offering the course free of charge:
We are also currently looking for volunteer counsellors to join our Need to Talk Project. Counsellors will be offering up to 8 sessions over both the telephone and online. Further training on both modalities will be available to successful candidates. Volunteering for RNIB will provide an ideal way for you to practice the skills learned in the initial 2-day course and develop further professionally.
