Preventing and Responding to Challeging Behaviour – In all settings for children and teens.

WHAT IS TCI?

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) is a crisis prevention and intervention system. It originates from Cornell University New York. The TCI system aims to equip organisations and their staff to work together in a way that prevents crisis and that aims to help child, young people, staff and the organisation-as-a-whole to recovery at a higher level of function – after a crisis.

Three core competencies underpin TCI:

  1. Prevent and de-escalate potential crisis situations
  2. Safely and therapeutically manage a crisis situation
  3. Be able to process reflectively with children and young people to help them improve coping strategies
